So I'm sure this confirms my main seal is rooted. Watch at the very bottom of the seal where it meets the engine...

I think today is going to be a good day. I scored the above TC for $220. 3 month warranty, all threads intact... :)

Also I have 2 job interviews today... :D
Used TC's are a punt and the higher the mileage the bigger the punt (may be on an logarithmic scale)

They can have worn internal clucth and you'd never know or the trans it was bolted to may have pooped itself sending cruddy fluid into the TC and you'd never know. If you actually got to see the TC come out of the car and was able to drop the trans pan and look at the amount of crud in the pan bottom, then may be you could make an informed decision. Otherwise it's just trust that the seller is honest with mileage and condition and isn't pulling a swift one on you.

If they offered a 12m warranty i'd feel more comfortable as [pulling the trans again is a big job and a PITA.

But you never know, may be the TC is from a good low mileage vehicle that's not been flogged on every outing

Guess that brings me to the question that others may be able to answer, can you flush out a used TC successfully, may be inspect the fluid coming out?

Will be adapted to hold my transmission, but it will hold 200kg. A fully loaded 6L80E I'm told is 105kg...;)

I dont think it would be possible to flush.

I would put a used lock-up TC in the same boat as fitting used brake pads but at least you can see how worn the brake pads are.

What does the 3month warranty cover, just the TC or the trans that it fills with junk when it fails. Or do you have to take the TC back and they exchange it?

You know the mechanic I spoke to at the wreckers earlier is a known guy working out of a place called Yatala. I went to him and spoke to his colleague re my low power mode trips (still happen once in a while) . He asked if I had the computer wiped and reset. I said no and he said bang there's your problems. Your computer has learnt paramiters from your TB and when a new one goes on you need to wipe the computer as I say and let it start a fresh or it will continue to throw TB related codes, which is exactly what it does.

Kinda makes sense and then we get onto main seals. Says he's done hundreds and never uses an alignment tool. The screws align the plate he said but he did say to change the plate too and GM, nothing else.

When I told him about my current TC and the snapped bolts drilled out, going to 55nm in torque or whatever it was he was like "wow why you doing them so tight???"... "spec I replied" (62nm I think) and he laughed. Said to use a good thread locker and do as tight as you can with a standard wrench, that's your torque...lol. Both him and the wrecker guy were tickled by all of this.

Hmmmmm....
