G'day guys... new to the Holden scene and just picked myself up a 99 VS ute and was just wondering if I can chuck in a VE SS L98 in it?

    Cheers

U do realise your gonna have to get a lot more than just the engine don’t you? Of course it can be done but there’s a lot of work and parts to make it all fit involved in the conversion so if your paying someone to do all the work I’d think you could be looking at $15 - $20k

Bolt in - no. ^ This figure is accurate for a good shop.

Talk to an engineer first before you commit if you're serious and want the thing to be registered.

Buy all the conversion parts yes ls engine will fit.

Will the 6l80 fit in the tunnel?

Yet to see ls into vb-vs with a 6l80...a couple have 4l80 in them though.

No component to do with the LS will bolt in. Loom/ECU/electronics, engine mounts, gearbox + mount (you will need the LS gearbox too), tail shaft, exhaust blah blah blah (this has been covered extensively and there are many conversion threads, use search). If you DIY you can probably halve the cost, but labour for somebody else to do it in addition to the part costs will likely be well over $100 an hour. You're also far better off getting a wreck or donor car too than buying every component separately or having a shop buy them for you. Will reiterate though, talk to an automotive engineer before you commit if you want it registered.

Conversion kit does not equal bolt in, especially where electronics are (or aren't in this kit) and engineering are concerned. To me at least physically bolting-in is something like a VN k-frame in a VL (or vice versa) where a mix and match of factory parts will let you bolt a Buick or Ecotec (or any other RB, even into that VN) in with little to no custom fabricated parts. Using factory parts and fasteners is far more favourable to the whole engineering process and after conversion work.
