There have been a lot of threads lately asking what speakers should i buy? So here is a thread for all of them

When you ask "which speakers should i buy" you will never get a definitive answer. All people hear differently and speakers that sound great to one person may not to you.

The best way to pick a set of speakers is to head out to your nearest specialist car audio dealer, and audition the speakers on display. Don't pay so much attention to how they look or who they are made by (I will address this later) just listen to the music and compare the sets you test. It will soon be clear how different one set of speakers can sound entirely different to another set.

Speaker size is another problem for people, In my opinion 6" splits are the standard for a set of speakers. These fit into commodore factory locations (Vr-vz i am sure) with little or no modification. The rears are not so important as they are there mainly for rear fill or for passengers to have some beats. Try and steer clear of 6x9's unless you are not planning on running a sub as they do produce lower frequencies than 6" but they lack in SQ. A set of 6' coaxials are a good choice if running sub/s.

Speakers ALWAYS sound better powered of an amp than off a head unit, a head unit is lucky to produce 17wrms where lower end 4 channel amps put out around 45 per channel, also amps give you total control of Freq and gives you the option of Hp and Lp filters. Just ask the guys at the shop they will help you with selection of an amp if need be.

Speaker instalation is EASY people!, do not fork out Hundreds of dollars on installation, have a go yourselves. If you get stuck there are plenty of people on here to give you some tips.

Brand choice is not so important as long as you are buying quality gear,

Cheers
Garrett

Good work mate, definitely agree about installs. I must have spent hundreds maybe even close to a 1k with all the different things I added and changed.

Speakers and a head unit are not a drama to install, but if you are gonna setup amps and all the rest then a professional is the best way to go. The chances of a fire increase quite dramatically. I know I always keep a fire extinguisher for electricals just in case.

Good work!

simplest answer, because Im a no hoper when it comes to this crap.

Had the VZ head unit modified by ASR (Greg aka Phreddy) to allow RCA out
Used a Sony Xplod 600W 4 channel amp I brought from Supercheap last year
Used a 1300 watt Sony Xplod sub from SCA
Used a rampage install kit
Used new Kevlar Jaycar Response 6.5" speakers front and rear

Cost me $200 for all 4 speakers, cant remember with the amp and sub but it was fairly cheap as Im on a budget.

Not the best sounding system but its come aloooooong way from where it was this time 12 hours ago. Took 3 of us 5 hours to do the complete job, that included re wiring the speakers to the amp, but it was worth it.

For $100 a pair cant go wrong. They sound awesome when connected to response amps too, thanks to Greg from ASR for a demo in his SV6!!!

please dont use liquidity's list of car audio brand names as your basis for buying your gear, it was completely based on personal opinions without any info backing up why brand A is better than brand B etc. Sure use it as a guide to begin with but be sure to do some further research and go test everything out before you go out and blow all your savings! I notice the list has been slightly modified again since it was posted on MEA.

**** you BEZZ! got to it first.

run4it: schneider is made by boss. its a crap product for christs sake.

in fact i completely disagree with this whole thread.
if your after a speaker, then you have a budget and you listen, brand means nothing.
also a bit of the old "get what you pay for" comes into it as well.
