Hi , I Am inspecting a VK Calais next weekend & I am not sure how to check if the engine is matched to the car ? The owner said it is but is a bit vague when questioned on phone & doesnt seem too forward in giving me the number before I inspect the car. I have read that the engine an LV2 should begin with VA prefix ? How do I workout the date on the engine to see if it corrosponses with the car ?
the info I have so far is as follows :
model VK8VX19-333
body 168514-A
trim 3026-23Y
paint 2B 035-D
built May 85
eng LV2 trans M40 axle G70

skinny tag 8X19AE L168514K

Any help & advice would be much appreciated
Cheers German

Prob won't be any help, I've got some tags off a VK I wrecked that say engine LV2 but it had a VG prefix motor inn it when I got it.

Tags read as
Model. VK8VK19-134
BODY No. 954427M
TRIM. 3038-64X
PAINT. 1J052-D
BUILT JUL85
ENG LV2 TRANS. M21 AXLE GU4

Think I read you can date the motor by the clock faces near the water pump?

(Edit) btw I kept the tags so no one took them before the body was crushed & tried putting them on another car & tried selling as a genuine 134 pack to some unsuspecting buyer.

2nd edit) also the vg prefix engine i have is cast with 308 on the block. I know 333 is a V8 auto Calais but you'd already know that & what the rest of the tag info means I'm guessing.

VA prefix is an auto only 304, mostly in 133, 233 and 333 VK range.
VG prefix is a manual only 304 in VK range, used after the VB prefix V5H motors were made.

The cast dates are often months behind the car made.

Thanks for that . I guess there is a breakdown of the actual eng no. that would tell me the date it was made ? Any other info would be great

Not from the engine number.
The cast dates is just in front of the water pump will tell us the day, month and year.

Hi I also looked at a VK Calais on the weekend Could you tell me what colour the body should be going on the plate info ?
It is currently painted in Pacific Blue which seems to be what the paint code is ?,but the engine bay is a dark green blue which seems to be a factory job , a
mate told me it is called Cerulean which comes up as 3026 as in the trim code ?
Plate info : VK8VX19-333
body 168514-A
trim 3026-23Y
paint 2B 035-D
built May 85
LV2 M40 G70

23Y is Light Cerulean velour. The 3026 is the combination code, often to tell exterior match with interior colour.

Your post on the 25th march has the skinny tag listing 8X19AE L168514K.
The letter A after the 9 states the engine is a 304 auto, A being for VA the prefix on the engine.
if the car is a may build engine casting stamp would be (febB5/marchC5/aprilD5)
