Leaky T56

    i have a T56 out of a Vz that has a leaking rear seal
    Rear seal has been replaced but it still leaks pretty bad! Does anybody know of any further secrets or mystery seals I should look at?
    The box did come out of a crashed vz Ute so I’m worried it might have some unseen damage?
    Everything else functions fine it just bleeds out when it’s hot!
    Side not it does have a one piece drive shaft but I doubt that has anything to do with it.
    Any ideas would be great, cheers.

    They do have a bush in the extension housing and if it is flogged out you will get leaks because the tailshaft yoke will flop around and will flog the seal.
    Could also be incorrect seal/poorly fitted seal/damaged extension housing/wrong yoke etc

    Thanks a lot for that mate, that’s the news I was hoping for.
    Do you know if that seal can be replaced externally or is it a major job?
    I might shoot down to Holden tomorrow and take a look through their parts department to shead some light on it.

    It is a brass bush not a seal, but you will need a new seal as well.
    Last time I did one I removed the extension housing (very carefully so as to not pull the rear shaft out)
    and then punched the old bush out and fitted the new one.
    Can't remember how I got the new bush in, probably used a piece of steel tube the same size and tapped/hammered it in.
    Naturally would be best to use a press.
    It was not a T56.
